Do you need a website if Instagram already brings in work?

Instagram can be an excellent shop window. If it reliably brings the right customers and you are at capacity, a website is not automatically the next priority. But social and a website do different jobs.

When Instagram may be enough for now

A visual, local, owner-led business can start with a complete profile, clear location, current hours, service highlights and an easy way to enquire. If demand is strong, the offer is simple and customers do not need much reassurance, forcing a website project into the week may add little.

What you do not control

Your profile sits inside someone else’s product. Layout, reach, links, account access and the rules can change. A website gives you a domain you control, stable pages you can point to, and a home for detailed information that does not disappear down a feed.

Search intent is different

Someone browsing Instagram is often discovering. Someone searching “joiner Bristol fitted wardrobes” or your exact business name is trying to decide. A website can give each important service a clear, indexable answer and help the visitor move from proof to enquiry without searching through months of posts.

Use social to show the life of the work. Use the website to explain the business and make the next step obvious.

Trust needs a stable place

A prospective customer may want the service area, qualification, menu, accessibility detail, process, policy, project type or answer to a practical question. A website gives those facts a predictable address. It can also connect your name, contact details and services with your Google Business Profile.

The two should support each other

  • Put the website in the profile and send each campaign to the most relevant page, not always the homepage.
  • Use the website for durable service and FAQ content.
  • Use Instagram for current work, process details and personality.
  • Do not hide all proof in social embeds; the site should still be useful if the embed fails.
  • Keep names, hours, phone and service area consistent.

A practical test

Ask five recent customers what they did between first hearing your name and contacting you. If they searched, checked several competitors, looked for a service you offer or hesitated because information was missing, a better website has a specific job to do.
